As a team of two we set up a new cloud-based (AWS EC2/RDS) waste management and -disposal platform, leveraging Odoo ERP, Python and PostgreSQL.

The platform allows waste originators to request pickup of waste, those requests are either being routed to pre-defined customer-specific waste disposers or to the “optimal” disposer (where “optimal” will be determined by availability, price,…).

Furthermore, the system has been built with the vision of working as operations- and billing platform for waste disposers themselves, integrating IoT-integration (i.e. sensors that raise alerts when containers reach a certain pre-set filling threshold) with automatic Order triggering and as a Waste Exchange.

Functional Responsibilities:

o Setup and parametrization of Odoo (R13, R14, R15), incl. upgrade migrations
o Customizations Design, Testing, UAT preparation, ongoing support

Technical responsibilities:

o Extension of existing data-models for Companies, Users, Partners, Products, Pricelists, CRM, Attachments (Integration with AWS S3) and others
o Extension of the Odoo Tax logic via customization of Fiscal Positions
o Creation and integration of additional data-models for master data: repository of Waste Containers for each location, incl. type, volume, S/N,…, tracking of different billing rules via Projects, relation between locations and waste disposers,…
o Creation and integration of additional data-models for processing of orders, service vouchers (confirmation of actual movements incl. actual quantities), reconciliation lists (collection, preview, and pre-authorization of billable events)
o Creation and integration of additional data-models for IoT devices and -events, incl. automatic order creation upon reaching a pre-defined threshold,
o Integration of extended and new data-models into the Odoo UI
o Creation of program logic to automate business processes via field relations and extensions of Odoo’s write and create methods, but also via scheduled Odoo CRON (ir_cron) jobs
o Making existing and new data-models available via REST endpoints
o Integration with the customer-facing Portal (created in Oracle APEX)

Other than the system implemented at Interzero, this system comprised the full cycle of customers requesting pickup of waste (“Demand Side”), assignment, scheduling and tiggering of pickup for those requests by freighters (“Supply side”), processing of weight notes, and full invoicing (on both, the Demand- and Supply sides).

Functional responsibilities included the full requirements gathering, creation of design documents, migration, test- and production-support for key- and end-users for all Finance- and Billing-related aspects of the solution.

Technical responsibilities included creation of required Oracle PL/SQL logic, creation and maintenance of the Oracle APEX application underpinning the solution, creation of new and adaptation of existing Oracle BI Publisher and Oracle XML Publisher reports, performance tuning for all Finance- and Billing-related aspects of the solution, including data migration.

Co-implementation of a mobile App (iOS & Android) for freighters to report pickups and drop-offs of their loads (React Native) directly integrating with the new system.
