I've been employed (or contractor) in 11 development roles (not including starting my own company) and I have
been responsible for performing all aspects of the full system life cycle in each role.
i. Consulting Users: easily develop an understanding of the working environment that my system has
to integrate into, understand process flows and departmental priorities.
ii. Design and writing the system specification.
iii. Developing all the code, for the front end and building database backend.
iv. Testing, either Unit testing a module or testing the complete system.
v. Releasing new systems training users. If needed demoing and training users on how to use it.
vi. Maintaining Systems and helping with reporting periods
Usually my role involves working in a team of end users to provide the tools that enable them to work more
effectively.
Sometimes I work in a team of fellow IT people.
Training other computer programmers in VBA (at Capital Dynamics, DJLB and Infratest Burke).
Readability of code, improve efficiency, reliability and maintainability of systems, reducing future costs of
maintaining systems.
Problem solving a wide variety of analytical issues.
Help users understand the more complex functionality of Excel, as well as introducing users to Access.
